Directory Snoop - Cluster-level Search Tool for Windows
Review by on
Are you wondering what data your Windows operating system is hiding from you? If you are, then you will need a file utility that can bring such data to light, you need something like the Briggs Softworks-developed application, the aptly named Directory Snoop. What is Directory Snoop and what can it do? Keep reading for a brief and to the point explanation.

Directory Snoop is a cluster-level search tool for Windows that allows you to go through your FAT and/or NTFS formatted drives and see what information is stored there. You will be able to see things that the operating system does not show you, like the file you deleted a couple of hours ago.

As you may already know, when you delete a file, it doesn’t actually go anywhere – it is still there. With Directory Snoop you can see that it is still there. You can use Directory Snoop to either recover a deleted file (should you need to bring a deleted file back to life) or permanently remove a deleted file (thus ensure no one else can bring it back to life).

Before you go get Directory Snoop and put it to the test, there are some technical details you need to know about. The technical details presented below:
Download – the download weighs in at 1.7MB, which is quite lightweight. At such a lightweight download size, it will only take a moment to get Directory Snoop off the web and onto your computer (even if you have to contend with a less than spectacular internet connection).
Supported OS – at the time of writing this and according to the developer, Directory Snoop provides support for Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP, Vista, and Windows 7 for FAT module and Windows NT, 2000, XP, Vista, and Windows 7 for NTFS module.
Limitations – the trial version is limited to 25 runs.

Pros
  • Lightweight download
  • Recover deleted files
  • Permanently delete files
  • Provides support for FAT and NTFS formatted drives and removable drives (apart from network and CD drives)
  • Works with Windows 7

Cons
  • Free to try
